The Appeal of al Qaeda: Ideology and Identity in the "War of Ideas" with Michael Doran, Ph.D.
Thursday, April 2, 2009, 12:30pm -- 1:30 pm
The Puck Building, 295 Lafayette Street, 2nd Floor, Rudin Family Forum
The conflict with al-Qaeda is often described as a war of ideas, but what exactly does this mean? Visiting Professor Michael Doran will analyze the global appeal of al-Qaeda's ideology; discuss what the United States is currently doing to counteract it; and present suggestions for a more effective strategy in the fight against terrorism.
Michael Doran is an expert on US foreign policy and the Middle East. Prior to joining NYU, he served in the State Department, as Senior Adviser to the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.
