The Green Stream

JOIN THE GREEN STREAM FOR PART 1 OF:
Climate Change and Water Series

With Upmanu Lall, Alan and Carol Silberstein Professor of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University

Water is already a critical factor affecting the social and economic well-being of a sizable proportion of the world’s population. However, with the world’s population projected to double in over the next fifty years, and water supplies becoming both more scarce and more volatile as a result of global warming, we are likely to face a water crisis so severe it will reshape everything from our governance structures to our modes of economic and agricultural production to our patterns of social interaction. Water will be the axis around which much of public policy revolves. This Tuesday evening series will explore innovative and sustainable solutions for water harvesting, looking at water provision from a new vantage point: via how water sources are changing as a function of global warming and increased population pressures. The implications that these shifts will have for water sourcing and water distribution will also be explored.

THE GREEN STREAM

Presents:

Parking Day NYC
Join the GREEN STREAM as we take back parking spaces in NYC on September 18th from 11am-1pm! (Stay as long as you'd like!)

Park(ing) Day is an international event that reclaims parking spots and transforms them into engaging, people-friendly public spaces for one day a year.

Park(ing) Day NYC is a New York City Streets Renaissance collaboration which supports the conversion of parking spots throughout New York City's 5 boroughs into human-friendly places for a single day. These small, temporary public spaces provide a breath of relief from the auto-clogged reality of New York City, and aim to spark dialogue about our valuable public space and how we choose to use it.

Global NY + Poverty & Affluence Chinatown Walking Tour

Join Global NY and Poverty and Affluence this Saturday, September 12th for a walking tour of Chinatown, sponsored by the Museum of Chinese in the Americas (MOCA). Space is limited! Sign up now!! (Global NY: sign up outside Michelle Dent's office - 6th Floor. P&A: sign up outside Maaza Mengiste's office - 3rd Floor.)

Saturday, 9/12
Leave Goddard Lobby at 12:15, prompt!

Check out this quote from MOCA's website:

"Discover the history and experience the energy of one of New York City’s oldest neighborhoods! Led by trained MOCA guides, this walking tour focuses on how everyday buildings and places of historical significance reflect and shape a community from its origins as a Native American village of Werpoes Hill in 1600 to one of the fastest growing immigrant communities of present day New York City. Highlighted sites include the oldest row house in Manhattan, a Catholic church, the oldest general store in Chinatown and a Chinese eatery that catered to the needs of Chinatown’s turn-of-the-century 'bachelor society.'"
